Band Rehearsal Update- 18/01/17

Today’s rehearsal was amazing! Our main focus today was working on the cover ‘Carousel’.

We got Gabby in to play bass which really ties everything altogether because it gets rid of that empty atmosphere we struggled to fill.

The bass has a really cool effect on it so it almost sounds like its being played backwards (its fading in but hey it still sounds good!)

We also played with the structure a little bit. The idea is to create a build up of everyones instrument 8 bars at a time. Ideally this will happen just after the bridge.

Chris our guitarist found a preset on his pedal that sounds like a carnival clown like sound which makes it even creepier and weirder which is exactly the sound we are going for!

Next session we hope to finish the cover completely and start working on the original.

Band Rehearsal Update- 13/01/17

So this session was kind of average due to the worry of deadlines and some other things.

I know all bands have their good days and their bad days… so i’ll make it into something good.

I think even though it wasn’t our best day we still progressed in terms of getting more familiarity into using different sounds and effects.

In the next session we hope to bring all the elements together for the cover, as well as bringing in a bassist to play the lower parts, as our guitarist simply cannot play both.

Fingers crossed all goes well!

Band Rehearsal Update- 11/01/17

In todays band rehearsal we worked only on the original song. We managed to incorporate a piano piece into the song but having it reversed and mixed around with an ambience to it. We used a different software system for this called Ableton Live.

This took a really long time to get used to and we did need a lot of help and guidance.

Next rehearsal we plan to work on the acoustic gig set as well as the original.

Band Rehearsal Update- 6/01/17

During this band rehearsal, we accomplished most if not all of our targets.

We split the session into two halves, this being originals and covers. We managed to roughly finish the cover of “Carousel” by Melanie Martinez.

The original writing process has started and we have found the sound we want to use, that being electronic and ambient but sometimes drifting into a rock vibe.

Next lesson we hope to progress within the original writing as well as learning more about how to achieve our sound.

Tomorrow’s Band Rehearsal Plan

As a band, we have come up with what tomorrow’s band rehearsal will consist of.

The first half of the lesson will be used to get back into the swing of things, as well as getting used to performing in a relevant sound to what we want to write songs in.

The song we will be covering is Carousel by Melanie Martinez, which is so different to what we are used to performing.

Getting this song down will then help us during the second half of the lesson which will be working on creating an original track.

Playing a similar style before brainstorming will open our minds up to ideas similar to the song we will have been working on.

For the end of the rehearsal we plan to have the cover done and at least a verse and a chorus including chords as well as lyrics.

I will be making another blog post after the session to reflect on what was achieved and any issues we faced.
